Love Does by Bob Goff
Love Does by Bob Goff was quite an enjoyable book and when finished it gave me a world of things to think about, all of them concerning LOVE. In this book the author relates stories of his life and of friends showing the many ways that one can give love without investing millions of dollars, or even thousands.
In one chapter the author was talking about super heroes and their capes and the fact that their capes always got in the way of whatever they were doing. His point was that those who “do love” pull off their “capers without the capes.”
I was impressed with Goff’s opinion that to be secretly incredible in our love for others we need to go against the trend of what the world considers the way to do something incredible. We don’t need furniture, a laptop, an organization, a mission statement, or a statement of faith. In Goff’s words, “Secretly incredible people just do things.” He further says the task would most likely be nobler if we just did the job and kept quiet about what we did.
From the book I got the idea that Goff was not that fond of clothing and jewelry with “religious” sayings such as the WWJD bracelets. His thought is that we should write “Be Awesome” on a piece of clothing that will not be seen by anyone but we will know that it is there.
In this book one realizes that Bob Goff is REAL and he uses everything he has to spread the love of God to the world. I found many of the things he did to be quite humorous but he got the job done. I think the most amazing thing he did was to take his kids to visit leaders of other countries. This world needs more individuals with the kind of love in their hearts that is in the heart of Bob Goff. What a world we would have if everyone followed his example.
I highly recommend this book. It is easy reading and will give you lots of things to think about and hopefully encourage you do them.
