Happy Independence Day!!!

The music by the choir this morning was absolutely awesome.  They started with Swing Low Sweet Chariot and moved right into a medley of the theme songs of the five branches of the American military.   As each song was song, anyone who had served in that branch of the military stood.  When the songs were finished, the choir received a standing ovation.  After the rousing singing by the choir, the congregation joined the choir to sing the Star Spangled Banner.  The Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Christian flag followed the singing.   The pastor’s sermon was on freedom and happiness.

The service tonight was a little different for most of the time was taken up with singing.  There was no sermon tonight but anyone who wanted to was encouraged to stand and tell why they were proud to be an American and also why they were proud to be a Christian.  After the evening service we all went to the Family Life Building for a supper of hamburgers and hotdogs with all the trimmings, lots of desserts, and a wide choice of beverages.  Mignon and Barry were visiting so the day was even more special for I had a good visit with them.

I remember when the flag looked like this one, but most of my life the flag has had fifty stars.
