I Can’t Believe I Did That

I cannot believe what I did this morning but I did do it.  When I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth I put a stack of audio books on the counter and put my cell phone on top of the stack.  When I finished brushing my teeth I turned to pick up the stack and somehow I hit the phone and it went flying.  It did not fall into the sink, it did not fall into the bathtub, and of course you know where it did end up.  I made a lightning grab for the phone before it could slip out of sight.  I dried off the outside and then flipped it open and dried the inside.  Then I called Brian to see if it would still work and it did but he said my voice was garbled somewhat.  He told me to take out the battery and dry it some more and then submerge it in rice for a couple of days.  Idiot like I thought that I had grabbed it quickly enough that it would not be wet inside but when I took out the battery it and the inside were both wet.  I put the pieces of the phone and the last of our brown rice into a Ziploc bag and hoped for the best.

This afternoon I had to go to Ruston so I went to the AT&T store to talk to someone about the phone.  I asked them if I should just go ahead and buy a new phone or hope for the best.  I then asked the guy that was helping me what he would do if it were his phone.  He said that he would leave it in the rice, put in on the dashboard of his car in the sun, and leave it for a couple of days.  I thanked him for his help, placed the rice-covered phone on the dashboard, and went on about my errands.

For the next two days I will be without a phone but no problem for my phone seldom rings anyway.  At least Brian and Christy each have a cell phone so we are not completely without a phone.  Christy commented that sometimes it made sense to have a landline phone.
