Christmas Eve, 2009

Dinner has been eaten, leftovers are in the refrigerator, and the dirty dishes are in the dishwasher.  Now I am going to sit here and read Christmas stories until it is time to go to bed or I get sleepy.

Yesterday my plan was to make a sweet potato pie and a pecan pie but scratched those and baked a chocolate cake instead.  Both boys like that best and one dessert is easier than two.   Besides we have lots of different kinds of cookies. We are having our Christmas meal tonight for Christy and Brian go to her parents tomorrow.  I did not want to do all the cooking for just two people.  In fact if I had my way we would eat out for Christmas but about the only thing open on Christmas is a Waffle house like restaurant.  But that would be fine with me.  I am not all that into all the big dinners anymore.  Just too much work and then having to deal with all the leftovers and dirty dishes.

I told the kids during dinner that I think next year we should start of new tradition of going out to eat on Christmas Eve night.  After Don and I married we spent Christmas at his Mom’s in Kansas City and my Mom would join us.  Since the rest of the family had their own things to do on Christmas Eve, the four of us would go out for Chinese.  We did this for three or four years and then the restaurant closed so we started a new tradition and I can’t remember what that was.  I think maybe the new tradition was that all Don’s siblings would come to Mom’s for Christmas Eve and we would have potluck.  I really miss those big family Christmases.
