Rose Colored Glasses

Yesterday when I was driving to Ruston I saw three small trees and every leaf was a bright red.  I was going to take a picture on the way home but of course I forgot.  Today when I drove up I pulled into the parking lot where they were located and took pictures.  As I got back into my car I looked over my sunglasses and the trees were still red but very faded looking.  Then I realized that I had been looking at the leaves with my sunglasses on and they have a pink tint to them.  Too bad the trees were not actually the color they looked though my sunglasses.  That is the second time that I have thought something was redder than it really was.  Last year I kept seeing the most gorgeous and very dark pink crepe myrtle and then one day I saw them when I was wearing my other sunglasses and they were still pretty but not the deep pink that I had seen earlier.  I have been looking at the world through rose-colored glasses and do not realize it until I take a photograph.  Very seldom do we have such brightly colored trees in Louisiana during Autumn.

Tonight after church we had a reception in honor of our pastor and his wife for they have been at the church for twenty-six years.  The lady who does all the catering for the church had a very long table loaded with food.  Everything she had was something that I really like but there was a problem for me.  Everything but the fruits and desserts were so hot with pepper that I could not eat them.  I did not know they were too spicy when I went though the line so I filled my plate.  I had to leave everything except the mini quiche, which fortunately was not spicy.  So I filled up on quiche, four different fruits and chocolate cake.    I don’t know what it is with so many cooks in Louisiana who seem to feel that they have to make every dish HOT with Tabasco or jalapenos.  I know I am not the only person who cannot eat the hot, spicy food.

And having gotten that off my chest I am off to bed before eleven for I want to be up early and hopefully get two of the little quilts for the church nursery made tomorrow.  Have changed the plans again and not going to cut the Minky into five-inch squares for it is just too hard to get it cut straight and I can’t abide it being crooked.  It would take too long to cut the squares so going to use a large piece and wide borders.  Donna said I could just hem the fabric they got for the backing but I want to make into quilts.  Will just have to see what gets finished tomorrow.  Want them out of the way so I can get the shirt quilt done.
