Good Day

I got up much earlier than usual this morning and took off for the Jonesboro library to pick up three books to complete a series that I have started.  I was standing at the desk checking out the books when I saw a tall, beautiful, blonde walking toward me and then I realized that it was Ashley.     She asked if I would like to go to lunch.  I told her I had just eaten but would love to go and sit and visit with her and the two boys.  She was going to Burger King so that Bryce could play in the playground.  After we spent probably an hour at Burger King she left going to Wal-Mart and I went back to the library to do my Bible study.

When I was ready to leave the library I walked down the audio book aisle and found four books on CD that I checked out.  The girl checking me out asked if I wanted to take part in the summer reading program.  I asked for details and she said if one reads six books then they get a tote bag.  Well I can always use another tote bag for books and such so I told her I would do it.  I laughed and told her that by the time the program ended I would probably have read sixty books.  I just finished a book on tape and am almost finished reading another so as soon as I read or listen to four more books I can get my tote bag.

After I got signed up for the reading program she asked if I were interested in the book group that meets at the library each month.  The book they are reading now for the July 22nd meeting is A Thousand Acres.  I listened to that one a few years ago but I checked it out and maybe will read it again and go to the meeting.  I have never been to a book club meeting and I have a feeling that it is not my thing but think I will give it a try at least.  July 22nd is Brian’s birthday but he will be at work at two in the afternoon so that should not keep me from going.

Earlier this evening Brian came in and asked if I wanted to play Gin Rummy.  After the first hand I had fifty-one points and then after a few more hands it was ninety-nine for Brian and ninety-three for me.  He won so he was happy.  Then we played poker for a while.  He tried to teach me Texas Hold-Em which he and Scott like to play.  When they were playing at Christmas I could not make any sense of it but now I think I know how to play and the three of us can play the next time Scott is home.  When Scott was home Christy played poker with Scott and Brian and I did other things.   She has not been playing with Brian and me.  Think she would rather be on the computer.  Neither Christy nor I know all that much about card games but Scott and Brian are both good at helping us learn how to play.
