Happy Easter, 2009

Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny, warm day but this morning when I woke up I realized that Easter Sunday was going to be a cloudy day.  When I went to bed last night, Brian asked me to make sure he was up when I left for church a few minutes before ten.  Well this morning I got up, showered, dressed and went to Brian’s bedroom to make sure he was awake.  I told him to get up that it was nearly ten and I was leaving for church.  He rolled over, looked at the clock and said, “It is only eight something.” That threw me for a loop so I checked all the clocks and lo and behold it was only a few minutes before nine, except on the clock beside my bed.  I finally found out what the problem was.  I had awakened about four thirty this morning and realized that I had not set my alarm for nine.  While setting the alarm, I had also set the time one hour ahead. I was ready a whole hour early so I made use of the time and did my Bible reading for the day.

I normally eat lunch out on Sunday after church but since it was raining today I decided to stay home for I hate getting wet.  And now I do not even have an umbrella for I lost it during the last rain we had.  About mid afternoon the sky kept getting darker and darker and we had a gully washer of a rainstorm.  The lights flashed off twice but fortunately they stayed on the second time they came back on.  And the battery powered backup surge protector the guys convinced me to buy kept my computer from going off.  Guess I should listen to my kids more, especially when it is about computers.

I mentioned yesterday that I got a bee in my bonnet Friday afternoon and because of it made my third trip to Wal-Mart for the day.  The bee was that I had decided that I wanted to watch the movie, The Passion of the Christ and it was not available at either library.  I called Wal-Mart to see if they had a copy and found out that it was on sale for a very low price.  I took off for Wal-Mart and when I got there I ended up buying three more movies that were also at a good price.  I could get four movies for what I had expected to pay for one. The other three that I bought were The Nativity Story, The Greatest Story Ever Told, and The King of Kings. My plan was to watch all four of the movies Friday afternoon and night but that plan did not work out.  I watched The Passion of the Christ tonight after church.  Sunday afternoons the rest of the month will be spent watching movies.

This Easter was the first one since 1979 that I have not made Easter baskets for my sons.  Last year when I insisted on making a picture of them with their baskets they gave me such a hard time and griped so much that I decided that I would not be doing any more Easter baskets until I have grandkids.  I had been teasing them that I was going to put their pictures on this blog and they got almost violent.  Well not really violent but they were upset.  Then I told them that when they had kids I could show the pictures to them and say, “See here is a picture of your dad with his Easter basket.”  What Scott had to say to that was, “And they will probably say look at dorky Daddy.”  That is why no Easter baskets this year.  I did buy a bag of peanut butter M&Ms for Brian and some Cadbury eggs for Christy.  Candy is fine, just NO basket.  As you know when you start filling a good sized basket with candy, it can get very expensive.  I guess I should be happy I did not have to do baskets but in a way it is somewhat sad for it is the end of an era.

This post was written Easter night but my Internet connection was off because of the rain and thunderstorms earlier in the day so I could not get it posted until the day after Easter.   Unfortunately the Internet was still off this morning so I am posting this at the library.  I certainly hope that when I get back home it is working again.  Nearly every time we have rain the satellite Internet goes out for a while.
