Shocked!!!
Scott arrived in Quitman about the middle of the afternoon. Great to have him home for most of the week. He was already here when I got home from grocery shopping. And as was to be expected, I had to make another trip to the grocery store in Jonesboro. Seems that most of my time and money is spent in Wal-mart.
About two weeks ago, a Siamese cat showed up in my carport. We had seen her sitting on the porch across the street so I went over and asked if she belonged to them. My neighbor said that she just appeared on their doorstep and would not leave. We started feeding her and she would stay and eat and then she would go back across the road and sit on their porch and watch the cars going up and down the road. For the past week, she has been staying around my house but she would not be in the bed we made for her in a cat carrier. I am a great fan of the Cat Who books by Lillian Jackson Braun so it was just natural to name her after the main cat in all the books. KoKo in the books is a male but I like the name and so do Brian and Christy so KoKo it is. She is a very friendly cat and seems to be an inside cat but I was waiting to see if she stayed around before I took her to the vet and had her all checked out so that she could come inside with the other three cats that belong to Brian and Christy. I have a feeling that someone just dumped her for she appears to be well cared for.
Today when I went out to my car shortly after noon, KoKo was lying in the carrier and would not come out which was strange since she would always come up and rub against my legs. I was concerned and wondered if she was sick. I went on to do my grocery shopping and when I got home I called her again and she still would not come out of the carrier. On my second trip to the car to get the rest of the groceries, I looked over at her and she was partially out of the carrier and I saw something lying on the blanket. I looked closer and what did I see but BABY KITTENS. I opened the door and told Scott and Christy to come and see why KoKo would not get out of her bed. Scott took the top off the carrier and there were three newborn babies. One is a gray tabby and two are orange tabbies. She had them after eight o’clock last night and before noon today. I know it was after eight for that is when I got home from church and she was not on her bed at that time. So, now not only do I have one stray cat but three babies. Guess the daddy cat was a wandering tomcat. She has the bluest eyes I have ever seen on a cat. I have never seen many Siamese cats and I do not know enough about them to know if she is pure Siamese or not. Now I will have to decide if I want to keep KoKo or one of the babies. I have to decide if I can afford to have her fixed and checked out and then she can be MY cat and stay in my studio with me. Will have to check around and see if I can find three people who would like a kitten. In some ways I would like to have a kitten but since there is already a gray tabby and an orange tabby in the house, I would rather keep KoKo the Siamese. She is a sweetheart. And now I know why she was probably dumped at the house across the street, the owner did not want kittens.
Brian got home from work before I got back from my second trip to the grocery and when I asked if he saw our surprise he had a big grin on his face. Knowing him he will probably want to keep Mama Koko and all three babies. But seven cats is just a few too many.
