A Day Of Accomplishments

This morning when I got up and went to ask Scott when he would like breakfast, he was already hard at work clearing out the upstairs room of unneeded stuff. I had not planned to work on that project over the holidays but bless his heart he was up there working like a trooper so I fed him homemade pancakes and bacon and then jumped right in and started helping. He would send a bag of fabric down the stairs and I was sitting at the bottom going through the bags and putting into big bags to take to the thrift store. The bags we were filling with stuff were about the size of six regular size grocery bags. I think we had six of them filled with fabric and there were also two very large plastic bags that were packed with fabric that I got from a clothing factory years ago. I tried to pick one up and I think it probably weighed fifty pounds. All of this was fabric that I had even forgotten that I had. I could have kept it to make quilts for missions but I already have thousands of yards of fabric in my studio and even if I can make two quilts a day it will take me a few years to get it all used up.

I have been collecting baskets for probably forty years and had no idea that I had so many. We ended up taking about six bags and several large ones that would not fit in bags to the thrift store. When I saw some of the baskets, I wondered why I ever bought them in the first place. I kept a few such as the ones used in my wedding but most are now gone. In addition to the fabric and baskets there were patterns, games, bags, stuffed animals, and Christmas items.

I am now in the mood to get rid of more stuff so I just asked Scott if he would like to do some more sorting tomorrow and he agreed. I am going to get rid of a good bit of fabric in my studio, such as double knits and wool for I will never use them. I also have lots of craft items that I will never get around to using either, so out they go and someone else can enjoy them. I want to do as much as possible while he is here for he has a pickup and that holds a lot more than my car. Today when we went to Ruston to Rolling Hills Thrift Store the pickup was completely full and my car was packed so full that there was only room left for me to sit in the driver’s seat. I took several bags of stuff to the Teen Challenge box when I first started clearing out but then I decided to take the rest to Rolling Hills for it is run by the Baptist Association and think it good to support my denomination.

Scott gave me a good laugh for when we were unloading at the thrift store he said to the girl helping us that he did not have a completely altruistic reason for clearing out stuff for he knew that when I died he would have to do it and he wanted to do now while he had the energy. That’s my son. I really appreciate all the work he has done for the room upstairs is three fourths empty and now Brian can move some of his stuff up there.

  1. I sympathize……I have cupboards and cupboards filled with fabric that, if I live to be a thousand, I will never use. I just cant help myself.

A go almost every day to my favorite online store, http://www.iluvfabrix.com just to see what new fabrics they have.

Because they almost always have a sale going on and such incredible stuff, I find myself buying things I dont need.

if you want to have a look, click the following link (sorry if it doesn’t work……computer stuff not my specialty. it is: http://www.iluvfabrix.com/products.php
