Happy 70th Birthday

I cannot believe that today I became seventy years of age.  Where have all those years gone?  It was a very quiet day but a great day.  I woke up about eight thirty but I just snuggled down in bed and listened to a book on tape and then I finally got up about ten.  I had planned to go to Monroe to Hobby Lobby and then to Dillard’s to look for a new winter outfit.  I have not bought new winter clothes in years so decided that my birthday would be a good time to remedy that situation.  I had just gotten awake when the phone rang and it was Brian asking what I was going to do for lunch.  I told him that I had a card for a free lunch at Captain D’s so I was going to have lunch there.  He then said that he wanted to join me for lunch so I was happy about that.  I left home about eleven thirty and stopped at the post office where I had two more birthday cards.  Had received three the day before.  I picked Brian up at the university and then drove to Captain D’s where we had a very enjoyable lunch.

I took him back to work and then headed down the interstate to the Hobby Lobby.  I found two pieces of fabric that I just could not live without so used my forty percent off coupon on one and left the store a happy shopper.  I very seldom buy fabric anymore but since it was my birthday I decided to splurge.  Then it was on to the Dillard’s at the Mall to look at clothes.  They had lots of things on sale but could not find anything that I liked.  I was about ready to give up looking and leave when a very nice saleslady asked what I was looking for.  Told her I wanted a long jacket or sweater and she showed me some sweaters but the colors were definitely not for me.  Then she said I have some black and red sweaters over here and started toward a rack.  My ears perked up and I told her she was now talking my colors.  Tried on the red one and said I will take it.  I just might put the black one on my Christmas list.

Earlier I had seen a gray, knit vest that was very long and thought that would be fine with all my red and black but then I got a look at the price tag, $189.00.  I quickly lost all interest in that vest.  Besides it was wool and I would not be able to wash it.   I paid for my red sweater/jacket and left Dillard’s a happy lady.

Since I really do not like to shop just for the sake of shopping, I left the store and drove back to Ruston and made a quick trip into the library to checkout three books on tape.  Then I headed for home for it was about five in the afternoon.  Christy had planned to cook dinner for me but since the kitchen is still in a state of chaos, I suggested to Christy that we just go out for my birthday dinner.  She was more than agreeable so she called Brian and that was fine with him to.  So, I had a free lunch and then Brian treated me to dinner at El Patio, a small Mexican restaurant in the next town south of us.

Christy’s mom had an auto accident last week, so when we finished eating at El Patio Brian drove Christy to her parent’s home.  I came home to play on the computer until bedtime.  When I got home I had dessert of brownies with mint chips in them that Christy had baked for me.  Since Brian does not like mint and Christy was gone, that meant that I was able to eat the entire pan of brownies alone.  Of course I did not eat them all that night but they were gone in a couple of days.

Shortly after I arrived home from the restaurant, Scott called to wish me a happy birthday.  That ended the day on a perfect note.  I can say that turnying seventy was just like any other birthday.  I definitely do not feel seventy except in my knees.
