Happy 4th Of July

The Fourth of July is the one time that I would like to have a sixty-inch TV so that I could see the fireworks even better than I do now on my small television. I was sitting here at the computer reading emails and almost forgot to turn on the TV. I was not thinking about it being an hour earlier on the east coast and because of that I nearly missed the fireworks. I do not always care for all the singers that are featured on the shows and I mainly watch for the fireworks. I saw the last thirty minutes of the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular in New York. When the fireworks ended in New York then I turned to A Capitol Fourth from Washington, DC. I absolutely love fireworks and the best way to watch is in the comfort of my home for there are no mosquitoes and not so much noise either. My favorite part this year was the Marine Band Drum and Bugle Corp at the ending of the Washington, DC show.

Watching the fireworks in Washington brought back a lot of memories from when I lived there. One of the views of the fireworks tonight was from the spot where mother and I watched the fireworks back in 1969. I think that was the last time that I was at a really large fireworks display. When we lived in Ottawa, Illinois, we sat on out back porch and watched the fireworks in the park just down the hill. The last year we were there I was frantically working on a very large wedding cake that had to be delivered by ten o’clock the next morning. That was my last catering job for shortly thereafter we moved down here to Louisiana and I did not start a catering business. Instead I became completely immersed in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Today I put about a hundred miles on the car just running from one place to another. I simply did not want to stay at home during the day. I went to Ruston to have lunch at Cane’s but they were closed so I drove on to Wal-mart and picked up all the necessary items for hot dogs the way I like them. I have been wanting hot dogs for a day or two and what better time to eat them than the Fourth of July? However I did not come straight home and have a hot dog but stopped at Taco Bell instead. I will have my hot dogs tomorrow. I would be having one now as a late night snack but not too sure that a hot dog with all the trimmings which include sauerkraut, onions, and pickles would be the best thing to eat shortly before going to bed. Instead I am having leftover P’zone from Pizza Hut. That is probably not the best thing to be eating either but I will be up for a while before I finally go to bed.

Yesterday afternoon I thought to myself that I should call Ashley and ask if she and Bryce would like to go out for supper. I was at the library in Jonesboro and when I came out I checked my phone and I had a message from Ashley asking if I would like to go out to eat. After calling her cell and her home phone with no answer I left messages saying that I would love to go out and to call and tell me where and when. Before I got Ashley’s message I had thought about going to Burger King but scraped that idea for would rather eat with her and Bryce. I drove home to wait for her phone call but as I drove under my carport I heard a car horn and looked back and there was Ashley behind me. She had seen my messages and decided to just drive to my house since she was just a mile away at school. On the way to Jonesboro we asked Bryce if he would like to have Chinese, Mexican or pizza. He finally said he would like to go to Pizza Hut so that is where we ate. Bryce had seen an ad on TV for the P’zones and had told his mother he would like to have one of those for they looked delicious. So that is what we both ordered. They are pretty good but in my opinion they could put more goodies inside. Will just have to make my own.

Ashley had some exciting news and tried to get Bryce to tell me what he had told his grandma the night before but he would not tell me. About three weeks ago when Mignon and I were talking with Millie, she asked Mignon if Ashley was pregnant. Mignon said not that she knew. Well, last night Ashley told me that she had just learned that she is pregnant and the due date is March first. We had a good laugh about Millie asking that and Ashley wants to know how she knew. So, come March 2009, I will have a second little kid to whom I can be a surrogate grandma. Seems that is the only kind I will ever have.
