Crepe Myrtle Is A Beautiful Flower

For some reason I could not get to sleep last night and was still awake at five this morning. Finally fell asleep and then woke up a few minutes before one in the afternoon. I needed to return some books on tape to the library so that was my first errand. I was in the stacks looking for more tapes or CDs when one of the librarians came to me with a stack of new books on CD. I hated to be greedy so I only took four of the six new ones. After a late lunch at Sonic I drove back to the church where the mission group met last night to take the pastor the paper that had my medical history on it. While there I took pictures of a gorgeous hot pink crepe myrtle tree. On the way home I saw one that was even larger and prettier but I was on a narrow, two-lane parish road with nowhere to stop and take a photo.

The entire tree is the color of the blooms at the bottom of the photo. The sun was shining so brightly on the top blooms that they look lighter.

White crepe myrtle is not my favorite color but I must admit that these are gorgeous. Why is it that one cannot get the best flowers without other junk being in the picture? Of course I could have cropped off the bottom but that would look weird. These trees are just off the interstate in Ruston.

This light pink crepe myrtle is even nearer the interstate in Ruston and is not far from the white tree. I guess I could go into Print Shop Pro and erase everything but the tree but I am not good at doing that so will just leave as is.

Since I first saw the red crepe myrtle at the Ruston library, I have been seeing quite a few red ones. Even thought red is my favorite color, I prefer the hot pink crepe myrtle and there are scores of them in this area. I can’t believe that I actually have a picture with no utility lines or poles showing or anything else distracting. I did take this one as I was sitting beside it in my car.  There is red crepe myrtle around three sides of the library.

And this is the sad little pink crepe myrtle in my front yard. But it is less than two years old and I missed the blooms at their peak. The bushes in the back yard and at the end of my yard have not bloomed yet. The ones at the end of the yard have lots of buds so maybe within the week I will have blooms. I hope the guy who cuts my lawn gets here tomorrow for it is looking shabby. We had lots of rain last week and the grass grew like crazy.

It was only last year that I realized that the large crepe myrtle bloom was actually made up of hundreds of tiny little blooms. Louisiana has never been my favorite place to live but I must say that the flowers in this state are gorgeous and make up for lots of things that I do not like.

When I got home from the church this afternoon I decided that I would call Brian and ask if he and Christy would like to have dinner with me tonight.  We met at a Mexican restaurant and had a great meal.  I was very naughty on the way home for I stopped at a grocery store and bought a half gallon of ice cream.  At this rate I will never lose weight.  I got home about eight and realized that I am very sleepy so I am going to go to bed early and listen to the ending of a good book.  I usually fall asleep in the middle and have to find my place the next time I go to listen.  I have not sewn a stitch this week and that has to change tomorrow.  Mignon will be back the eleventh so I now have less than two weeks to finish the quilt.  I am hopeless as well as lazy.
