This morning I started working on the quilt quite early and was at it until about six thirty when Mignon called and wanted to know if I would like to go to Jonesboro to eat after she spent some time at Curves. Of course I said yes and she came by to pick me up. I should have exercised too but my knees were hurting too much so I just sat and read while Mignon worked out. There is a new little Italian restaurant just around the corner from Curves so we decided to go there. We had a vegetable pizza and it was very good. She insisted that I bring home the leftovers.
Today I completed the blocks that were colored with the markers. The coloring with the markers was easy but ironing each piece for FOUR minutes to set the ink was boring and tiring. I had two pictures that I had colored with crayons and when I ironed the first one to transfer the crayon from the paper to the fabric I was extremely disappointed. The block was a panda and his black fur looked more like a washed out navy blue. I took another piece of fabric and redid the panda with markers. The second crayon block was a house but I changed it to an appliqué.
I changed my mind about what I am going to do on the center block on the front of the quilt. The original plan was to draw a tree and then fill in the branches with Broderie Perse appliqué. I rough cut a big pile of flowers and then started placing them on the large square. I soon decided that I did not like all the different kinds and sizes and it became apparent that I should go with the flowers from one piece of fabric. I also decided that I would use an all over floral for the tree trunk and the flowers will be very closely spaced and in somewhat of an umbrella shape. The center block was white but the more I looked at the block with the flowers, I realized that if I used black for the center block then the flowers would really stand out.
After I finished the blocks with markers, I started on the blocks to be stenciled. The first was a pineapple and turned out beautifully except for a small spot with extra paint but not going to worry about it. Then I started on the block with the word Curves and when I removed the stencil for the second letter, I saw that I had gone over the edge and there was pink paint where is should not be. Thoroughly disgusted, I tossed the damaged block and will do another tomorrow. I plan to start on the appliqué blocks tomorrow but will not get to the large block with all the flowers for maybe two days. I still have to put the flowers on Wonder Under, fussy cut them, and then fuse to the block. I am sure that will take an entire day. I really have to keep at it to get this quilt finished by Saturday night. Maybe tomorrow at Bible Study, Mignon will have decided if she is going to stay here another week. I certainly hope so for I have a feeling that I may need the extra days to finish.
