Special Quilt In The Making
Yesterday morning I got up at a decent hour and then spent most of the day searching for appliqué patterns to use on the quilt that I am going to make for Mignon. I was very happy to find most of the patterns that I wanted. I decided to not worry about how much printer ink I might be using and printed out each pattern when I found one that depicted something from our friendship. The one I was really surprised to find and delighted with was the very young little boy with a baseball bat. That one is perfect for Mignon’s grandson Bryce since he is playing T-ball with other three and four year olds and she has been going to all his games and practices. I was planning to do appliqué but considering that I only have three weeks or less to make the quilt I have decided to do something completely different and quicker I hope. I am going to put the printed patterns on top of the fabric square and then stitch on the sewing machine to get the design onto the fabric. After the design is on the fabric, I am going to color the pictures with crayons and then highlight with stitching. There are a couple of blocks that I will do in Broderie Perse. There are two other blocks that I want to print the design onto the fabric. Unfortunately my ink jet color printer no longer works so will have to see if I can find someone with one who will let me run two sheets of fabric through their printer. I need thirty five blocks but some of them are going to be squares of special fabrics that are very appropriate for the quilt. One such fabric, which is perfect, has red hot chili peppers and Mignon loves hot foods.
So many times my grandiose plans do not turn out as I plan but I really believe that I can stitch, color, and highlight the blocks faster than I could put the patterns on fusible web, fuse the pattern to fabric, cut out the pattern, fuse to the background block, and then do very close satin stitch around the pattern. Besides I have done so much appliqué that I am rather tired of doing it and have been wanting to do crayon coloring on fabric so think this will be a good time to try it.
Today was homecoming at church and there was a potluck lunch after church. As usual I ate way too much, especially desserts. We did not have church tonight so I spend some time printing a few more patterns that I located. I now have all I need and think I have the placement all planned out just as I want. Will sleep on it and see what I think tomorrow. Going to go by Ashley’s and get her input and opinion.
Vacation Bible School starts tomorrow morning and I am the “official” photographer. Almost midnight so I need to get to bed so that I can get up and get there as near eight thirty as possible. The director said I did not have to be there that early but I need to get there and get pictures made so that I can then get across the parish to deliver the deposit check for the mission trip I will be going on in August. And I MUST get to Curves.
