I had hoped to get two quilts completed today but did not quite make it. I did get three cut and ready to sew, one completed, and the top of another quilted. So guess that was not too bad considering I did not get started until about three in the afternoon. I tried a new method for making the quilt and it worked just fine. I put the batting down, put the back on top with the right side up, put the front on that with the wrong side up, and then cut to the correct size through all three layers. I stitched around the quilt leaving an opening for turning and after turning I did a decorative stitch around the outside edge. THEN I did the quilting. The first one was squares on the front so I had to do some thread tying and hiding but on most of them I should be able to start and then just continue stitching until all the quilting is done. And if not then it is not that hard to tie a few threads and then run it back under the fabric for a short way.
With flash and inside lighting the color is off somewhat. The yellow backing is much brighter, a sunshine yellow. Judging from the time this one took I am sure I can do two a day if I will start in the morning. Oh yes, I did not piece all those little squares, the fabric was printed in squares.
Last night I was leaning back in my computer chair looking at a group of plastic boxes filled with fabric. It finally got through to my brain that one of those boxes was filled with fleece. This is not polar fleece but a thin fleece that will be about the same as flannel on the backs of the quilts. I have it in all the primary and secondary colors and also white. Not too sure about the advisability of solid white for the back on a quilt for a child. The whole quilt will eventually get dirty but the white would show dirt almost immediately. Oh well, will talk with Lynn and if she says that it is all right then will use it.
