Department Of Revenue

After Bible study this morning I packaged up the five books that I sold last night and took them to the post office. Since it was such a pretty day although rather cool, I decided I would go to Monroe to the Department of Revenue to get some questions answered that I had about sales tax owed to Louisiana from my book sales. My dear first born told me last night that I do not have to pay sales tax to Louisiana for the books that are sold out of state. I checked with the lady at the revenue office and that is correct. She also showed me exactly how to do the tax form with only out of state sales and with out of state and in state sales. The forms are typical government gobbly gook that takes a while to understand. So, I just decided to let someone tell me what to do and not spend my time figuring it out. I also got it set up so that I only have to file quarterly instead of monthly. Now I need to check with the Parish office to see if they have the same rules as the state.

I was so proud of myself today when I arrived at the Department of Revenue. I have been there several times and every time I have ended up driving all over downtown Monroe trying to find the place. I would have directions but something always went wrong. This morning I called the office and asked for directions and a very nice lady gave them to me but she talked fast and I could not get it all written down. And it did not seem to make sense. I felt she was sending me the wrong way. I went to Google maps and got directions. I followed those and drove straight there with absolutely no problem. I realized what I had been doing before was that when I exited off the interstate I would go right when I should have gone left. And I also know how to get from the tax office back on the interstate going west and home. I learned something today. Actually learned several things.

Yesterday I decided that I would go ahead and get a box at the post office. Now I have the fun job of changing my address with all the bills that I get and also letting family and friends know the new address. At least the family and friends can be told via email. And I think that most of my bills can be changed on the Internet and if not then by phone. Good job for me tomorrow between listing books on my website.

Last night when I was talking with Scott, I told him about the fallen mailbox. He told me that it had been unsteady when he was here at Christmas. So, since we have had a good bit of rain lately, it may have just fallen on its own. Now I have to get the box and wooden pole removed and taken to the dump. That will be one less thing for the guy who mows my lawn to weed whack around.
