Friday And Dinner With Brian

In the mail today I got a letter that was from a rewards company up in New Jersey. Thought it was just more junk mail but there was something stiff like a credit card in the envelope so I decided to open it. The first sentence of the letter said, “We are delighted to be able to send you your reward for being a YOUNIQUELY4U member of the Ouachita Public Library.” It was a gift card for Williams-Sonoma. I still thought that it was probably worthless but I called the number to check on the balance and was I ever surprised when I was told that there was a balance of $25.00 on the card. A check for $25.00 would have been better but I know I can find something on their website that I would like to have.

Today was the day I had to pick up my cholesterol and blood pressure prescriptions and since I was out and it was lunchtime I had a quick lunch at Burger King. Then I stopped by Wal-Mart to get some things to make a cake, which I really need. I am an intelligent person and I know that I do not need all that sugar and calories but I WANT it and it has Mandarin oranges and pineapple in it so it must be healthy. How’s that for rationalization?

After I left Wal-Mart with my “health” food I returned a stack of books to the library and then sat down and read until they closed at five thirty. On the way home I decided that I would like to have supper with Brian so I called him at work and asked if he and Christy would like to meet me somewhere for dinner and I would treat. Christy could not come so he and I met at Monjuni’s Italian Restaurant. Since I had never had a true muffeletta, I decided to have one, well a fourth of one. Brian said that he once ate half of one. In fact I did not eat all of it but brought about half of it home for a snack later. I am hungry now so think I will go finish it off.

When I got to a certain point in Ruston I called Brian at work and then he left to meet me at the restaurant. Since I was going north and the restaurant was on the one-way street going south I had to turn and go south. As luck would have it there was a train going across town so I was stuck there about one hundred feet from the entrance to the restaurant. I had been sitting there thinking about pulling out to the right and going down the space between the parked cars and the line of traffic. I was still sitting there thinking about what to do when a car went whizzing past in that space. I glanced at the tag and knew that it was Brian so I just pulled out and whizzed right down behind him and parked right beside him. I have a feeling what we did was illegal but fortunately there were no police around, or if they were they did not see us.

I am off to eat the rest of my muffeletta, finish my book while I eat, and then off to bed.
