Birthday Quilt Finished & Delivered

The quilt that was to be a Christmas present but ended up being a birthday present because my sewing machine stopped working was finally finished this weekend and today I delivered it to Christy. It goes with the pillow that I had given her for Christmas. I can now erase one UFO from my very long list. Now I need to get to work on a wedding quilt for Brian’s good friend who was married on New Year’s Eve. I am seriously thinking about asking Wes and Misty if they would be just as happy with a really neat wall hanging. I just do not want to make a large quilt. I have found that working with large items I end up with a very sore shoulder. Been over a year since I dislocated it and it still hurts at times, especially when I am working with a large quilt while machine quilting. The way I have to hold the quilt puts strain on my shoulder and that does not make me happy. As long as I can keep my arms down and work on a small item, then I am fine. Unfortunately my niece who was married the end of January has requested a queen size quilt and of course I will make it for her, hurt shoulder or not.

This was a ‘quickie’ quilt and is the same on both sides.  I simply cut the fabric in half lengthwise, quilted the six pieces and then put them together with the black binding.  Can’t be seen in the photograph but I quilted with black thread in a meandering pattern.  Christy loves Hello Kitty so she is very happy with the quilt.  Two of the three cats in the home appear to approve of the quilt also.  Right after this photo was taken the orange cat jumped over half way up the quilt and hung there for a couple of seconds. I am sure that by now all three cats have had a nap on top of the quilt while Christy was having a nap under the quilt.
