Joyce’s Christmas Gifts

Received pictures of Joyce’s Christmas gifts yesterday so now I can post them to my blog. As I said in the post about Linda’s gifts, these gifts were for last year and this year since last year I had a dislocated shoulder and was not up to sewing. I am beginning to think that my shoulder is never going to be completely healed or at least the muscles in my upper arm just below my shoulder. The Santa table runner, the two snowmen tablecloths and the apron were for Christmas 2006. The cream tablecloth, poinsettia tablecloth, and two pillow covers were for Christmas 2007.

Joyce collects snowmen and I have been collecting snowman fabrics for three or four years. When she told me she would like a tablecloth for the kitchen table I had a grandiose plan in my mind. Needless to say I got bogged down and began to hate the idea, so I just decided to make very simple, reversible ones. I thought it would be easier and quicker to make them reversible instead of hemming . I sewed them like a pillow, turned, and then did a decorative stitch around the edge.

The other side is not snowmen but snow babies. Guess that counts.

I was not really happy with the one way design but could not change that. Well I could have cut the fabric into four pieces and then turned each one a different way but was not sure it would look that good. Stripes would be fine done that way but not sure about squares.

At least the other side is not a one way design. All in all there are four tablecloths. They are square for a square table.

Joyce usually decorates the kitchen/family room with snowmen and does the dining room/living room with Santas. I decided to make a table runner for the dining room table but I see that she used it somewhere else. Makes it more usable. It is also reversible but think Joyce forgot to flip and photograph. :O)

This is the fabric that is on the reverse side of the Santa runner.  I can see why Joyce used the other side.  I thought I liked this side best but seeing the photograph it is just too busy.

Joyce said she would like a cream colored table topper to use on her square coffee table when she had a party.  I had originally planned to do a crazy block one with different cream fabrics but then I found this cream brocade in my stash and quickly forgot the crazy idea.

I had only one yard of this fabric and thought that it would go great in Joyce’s living room so made a table topper of it also. I learned that I was able to turn up the hem, press. and then stitch the hem on both cloths quicker than I did one reversible cloth.  No more reversible table cloths for me.

I barely had enough cream fabric to make the two pillow covers.  Wanted two of the poinsettia fabric but only had enough for the table topper.  I did not make the Santa pillow.

And the last gift was an apron with a snowman.  Some women do still wear aprons.  I must ask Joyce if she even used the table cloths since they still have the folds in them.  :O)  I am assuming that she used them and then laundered and put away until next Christmas.  She made the photographs after Christmas.
