Thanksgiving Day
Another Thanksgiving Day has come and gone. This was a first for Brian for he had Thanksgiving dinner in his home rather than coming home to Mom’s or going to Kansas City to be with the extended family.
Christy prepared most of the meal and did a great job. As I mentioned in my last blog I took pies, rolls, and cranberry relish. She had prepared turkey and ham and I for one really enjoyed the ham for I have never been that fond of turkey. Christy’s mom, dad, grandma, sister, and cousin came up from the Alexandria area and with Christy, Brian, Scott and me there were nine of us gathered around the table in the dining room for a wonderful meal. Scott returned thanks and then we all set to work filling our stomachs.Everyone ate so much that not much pecan pie or sweet potato pie was eaten but later in the afternoon some of us went back for dessert.
Scott and I are going back to Brian’s tomorrow for lunch so I left two whole pies and brought the partly eaten ones home. Just had a big piece of pecan pie and I realized that I do not like pecan pie the way I did as a kid.
Shortly after dinner, Christy’s family left to return home for her mom has to get up at three tomorrow morning for work. Scott, Brian, Christy and I retired to the living room and some TV watching. Scott was lying on the sofa and I sat at the end and put his feet in my lap. He was asleep and before long I was also asleep. Had not had my required eight hours of sleep the night before. The next thing I knew, Scott and Brian were calling, “Mom, wake up.”
All in all it was a most enjoyable day. Christy also wants to do Christmas at their house so I will not have to cook then either. Think I will take cake for dessert since we had pies today.I have decided that I prefer cake to pie. Will probably make two for Brian really likes German Chocolate cake and Scott likes carrot cake. I like both so I can really be a glutton.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I definitely will NOT be doing any shopping tomorrow. There is nothing in this world that I want enough to fight the crowds to get it.
It is almost midnight so I am off to bed and Scott was told not to wake me before ten for do not have to be at Brian’s until one. I am so thankful that he did not request pancakes for breakfast tomorrow morning. He can just find some cold cereal or have pie. As I have been sitting here writing this I have been listening to Christmas music. Gets me in the mood to start working on Christmas gifts that I want to have in the mail no later than December third.
