Second Physical Therapy Session Not So Bad

Had my second physical therapy session today and it went just fine. I was actually able to move my arm a little more than I could on Friday. However, when it came time to do the exercise with the rod, I could not get my right arm up. Christy my exercise specialist said we would just forget that one. Then I had to wait to see the physical therapist. Had my book with me so I got in a few pages of reading while waiting for Fred to come talk with me. He had me do some more exercises with him which hurt a little more than the ones I did with Christy. Then he had me try the one with the rod again. He changed the exercise a little and I was able to do it a few times. Instead of having to raise my arm from hand to shoulder off the mat he had me raise my arms at the elbow and then start the exercise. That way I only had to raise my arms from the elbow to shoulder off the mat. That way was easier but it still hurt a great deal. I have to do three sets of ten tomorrow and probably will be doing it each day between the visits to the therapy gym.

About three days after I dislocated my shoulder my eye started itching and was red and since I only have vision in that one eye I called the eye doctor and got right in to see him. After the examination he gave me eye drops and told me to come back the next day. The next day he looked at the eye again and then he asked if I would like to take part in a research project being done by Bausch & Lome for eye drops for infections such as what I had. When he mentioned that I would be paid I said yes that I would do it. He assured me that it was completely safe. So I got all set up with the lady doing the research and came home with my little bottle of drops and finished using the drops that day as instructed. The next morning I got a call from the lady doing the research project and she told me that I would have to drop out of the testing since I had vision in only one eye.

I went back to using the drops that the doctor had given me originally and a week later at my appointment my eye was all clear and healed. I then went to see the lady to see if I would get paid for the first session and she said of course. I was delighted for seventy-five dollars for putting drops in my eyes twice was a great deal. I asked why I was taken out of the study and she said they only wanted people with vision in two eyes. I have a feeling they were protecting themselves from law suits should the drops cause blindness. Actually I was rather relieved for I had wondered about possible harm. Being blind would not be the end of the world for me but everything that I LOVE to do requires sight. However I have heard of several blind people who quilt and do embroidery.

Today my check finally came and on the way to the bank to deposit it, I realized that I had not had my car inspected and my sticker expired on November thirtieth. So after the bank I went merrily down to the inspection place and when the inspector asked for my driver’s license my billfold was not in my purse. I did not panic for I remembered that I had had it out at the computer for some reason so knew where it was. Told the lady I would be back in about twenty minutes and took off for home. Left the car running and raced into the house and straight to the computer desk and NO billfold. Then I did panic. I looked all around the desk and in the kitchen. I was just about to call the library which was my first stop today and decided to take a second look in my studio. As I stepped down into the studio I saw some pink on a table across the room. Yes, it was my billfold and I was one happy gal. Grabbed it up and raced back to the car inspection station and now I am legal for another year.

Since the pain pills the orthopedic doctor prescribed for me seem to take three to four hours to work or at least make me sleepy, I took one at six and am thinking about going to bed around eight. I am a great believer in the healing power of sleep. I have to be up by eight thirty tomorrow morning for I have Bible study at church at nine.
