Physical Therapy, Ouch

Today I had my first physical therapy session. The head of the therapy department saw me first and had me do several different movements which he measured with a funny little ruler. After each movement he made notes on a sheet of paper and then the took me to what they call the “gym” and told one of the therapists what he wanted her to do. I was very impressed with the guy for he said that he was not into pain and at any time if the exercises hurt I was to stop. The lady who worked with me was also very considerate and with each new exercise she would ask if it hurt.
I did fine until the very last exercise. For that I was lying on my back and holding a rod in both hands. I was to lift my arms up as far as possible with no pain. Well, after about forty-five minutes of exercises I could not raise my arm over an inch or two. The main guy told me to lift with the good hand but I still could not get the right arm up without pain so he quickly told me to just quit. I gladly did so. He told me to try the exercise with the rod at home once on Saturday and once on Sunday. Have appointments next week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Maybe it is my imagination but I think my muscles are better already. :O) Could just be wishful thinking.

I have always heard such horror stories about physical therapy that I was quite concerned. Even though I have a high tolerance for pain, I do not like to do things that hurt. :O) Today’s session was a nice surprise and not dreading the other sessions.
