Finally Finished The Six Baby Quilts

I can't believe that it has been almost a month since I last wrote anything on my blog.  I did start another blog that is to be just about family, friends, and me.  But that one is not public yet for there are some things that I want to change on the blog and I need Scott's help to do it.  :O)

The first two weeks of October I had a sewing marathon and made six baby quilts that I was taking to Kansas City when I went up for a visit and for a baby shower but things came up and I was not able to attend.  Thanks to UPS, the box of quilts arrived safely and in time for the shower.

The mother to be and shower honoree has done the nursery in jungle motifs and I just happened to have fabric on hand that was just perfect.  The baby boy for whom this quilt was made is due on November 23 and will be named Cornell.

My niece lives in Kansas City and has a little girl to whom I owed a quilt.  This was the perfect time to get it made.  This was the first little girl quilt for me to make.  All my baby quilts so far have been for boys.  This is the front side of the quilt that I made for Miranda.

Another cousin was at the shower and her daughter had just given birth to a boy. This is the quilt that I made for Cooper.

Cooper has a big sister and she too was owed a quilt.  Knew she loved pink and I had some Holly Hobby which seemed like a great combination. This is the quilt that was made for Gracie.

Still another cousin was also at the shower and her daughter had just given birth to her second daughter.  This is the quilt made for the new baby.Stephanies quilt for daughter1.jpg

And this quilt was made for the big sister.

These are all whole cloth quilts which I do a little differently for I hate trying to keep top, batting, and backing straight as I quilt on the sewing machine.  I quilt each fabric to a very thin batting and stitch in a meandering pattern so that each motif has quilting around it.  Then I sew them up as one would a pillow, turn, and do a decorative stitch around the outside edge.   They are definitely not "art" quilt but those will be made when the kids are older.  These quilts are made to be loved to tatters.  :O)

Doesn’t matter that they aren’t art, as this way, they’ll be used! They are wonderful, and very washable.

D-These are really beautiful and seem simple. I have had 6 nieces/nephews have babies this year, and made baby quilts that slipped and slid all over while I was trying to quilt them. Do I understand correctly that you just gently quilted the top to the batting, and then did the pillow/turn outside in and stitch the edges? What a wonderful idea! Suzanne
