As I said in an earlier post, I do not care for the Dresden Plate quilt pattern. So how did I happen to make another one over fifty years after I made the first one? In 1997 my mother-in-law died and left nine quilts unfinished, and since I was the only one in the family that quilts, I said that I would finish them. Here it is almost ten years later and I have only finished one and that one was finished in May 2003.
The Dresden Plate quilt was for Mom G’s other daughter-in-law, Linda. Mom G had cut the cone shaped pieces and pieced them into circles. On a visit to Louisiana, Linda and I went fabric shopping and she chose the two greens to use for the background, sashings. and backing. I fused Wonder Under to all the plates, cut them out and then fused to the green background blocks. I appliquéd the plates on the sewing machine using a very close set satin stitch. I did not make circles for the center of the plates but just satin stitched them to the background also. Mom G would have done the most beautiful needle turned hand appliqué but I do not do hand appliqué and Linda did not care.
And the answer to the question as to why I made another Dresden Plate quilt is that I loved my mother-in-law and felt that she would want me to finish the quilt. And Linda is more a sister than a sister-in-law and I made the quilt out of love for her.

This is my second and last Dresden Plate quilt. This one was easier for I did not have to cut and piece the plates. The back of the quilt is the light green used for the sashings and borders.

When I put this picture on here it hit me that I should make a couple of pillow shams for Linda. Good idea for a Christmas present. Talked with her today on the phone and she really liked the idea. I think that I will make two of the light fabric and two of the dark.

I have always put labels on my quilts but this is the first one that included a history of the quilt. Planning to do this type label from now on. Oh yes, the label is straight on the quilt, I just took a crooked photo.
This is definitely my last Dresden Plate Quilt. However if someone offered me enough money I guess that I could be persuaded to make another.
Very nice quilt. Green is my favorite color. Are you sure this is your last one? =)
Hi Deanna,
I enjoyed reading about the quilts. I will have to tell Adria you put a photo of her quilts on the internet. I think it is so nice that you are finishing up Aunt Frances quilts. I know that would make her happy, and they are a wonderful keepsake.

Well, this is weird…….
Currently, I just finished the last of 25 Dresden plate squares that my gramma found in her house from HER mother (my great grandmother) and am putting them together, all, by hand. My great grandmother died in 1977, and those 25 pieces were sitting in the back of a closet, all alone, for thirty years. I’m not even sure how old they are. But, nonetheless, I’m making the entire thing by hand stitching to finish it. As I read this entry, I had to stifle a giggle. It’s weird how some things should be finished, and finished in the manner in which they began.
In other words, finish your plate.
Dee, it is time to post to your blog. It has been far too long. I loved seeing all your CQ; thanks for the inspiration.
