In a previous post I mentioned that I have been sewing and embroidering for over sixty years. I did my first quilt when I was about fifteen and I cannot believe that the pattern I chose was the Dresden Plate. These days I do not even like that pattern. And I made the quilt back in the days before rotary cutters and mats. It would take a ton of money for me to make a quilt these days where I had to cut out each little piece separately with scissors after tracing the shape on the fabric using a template of stiff paper. I think the inventor of the rotary cutter deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, or at the very least, a prize of some kind.
Below is a picture of the quilt as it looks today and it is quite evident it has seen a lot of use. I pieced it in 1953 and mother quilted it in 1968. She came for a visit and quilted it while she was there without a quilting frame or a hoop. Even though it is tattered and worn, I cannot bring myself to toss it. Besides it still has a lot of warmth in it. My son Brian used it all last winter and has more or less made it his quilt.

This is a great site and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the lovely quilts you’ve made and reading your comments. Way to go. Sara Martin, Farmers Branch, TX, USA
