Yesterday I drove a third of the way across the state to my favorite quilting store to pick up some Tiger Tape. While I was there I had to look around to see if there was anything that I absolutely could not live without. Found a fat quarter of black with just the outline of flowers in gray. I have plans to put a piece in a crazy block and then outline the flowers again with silver metallic thread. After looking at all the fabrics, I wandered into the little area where they have the sale items and struck gold. They had beautiful angel appliqué patterns on sale for half price. Now I don’t know any quilter/crafter who can pass up a sale like that. There are twelve angels in the series but the store only had the first seven. I bought them anyway for I do not have to have all twelve. When I got home I got on the Internet and found the designer’s webpage and I can get the last five but I would have to pay full price. Not sure that I want them badly enough to pay almost twice as much for five appliqués as I paid for seven. Of course I can put them on my Christmas wish list. After I left the quilt shop I went on to Hobby Lobby for when I am in that area I never pass up a chance to go there. I was walking down the aisle and saw some gorgeous sheer black fabric with embroidered white flowers. When I saw that the fabric was originally thirty dollars a yard and was on sale for six, I had to have a piece. It will also be beautiful as a patch in a crazy block. I was good though and only bought a fourth of a yard. As I sit here writing this I keep thinking that I may just print out a Hobby Lobby forty percent off coupon and go back over there and buy a whole yard of the fabric. I keep seeing that fabric in my mind and want some more of it for a piece framed would make a gorgeous picture. You notice I did not say that I need more, but WANT more. :O)
I love it… don’t need it, but DO WANT IT!!!! I can’t imagine driving that far for stuff, though. I guess I would if I didn’t have anything around. I used to drive 2 hours each way to go to Half-Priced Books. I love that place and they don’t have one in the Valley… grrr.
Love your site, dd
Linda
Your blog is growing and looking good DD. I have had a thought….(it does happen now and then
I have collected vintage linens for years. Most of mine come from family and after years of use are often threadbare and worn, but I cherish them anyway. Some I have purchased. There used to be a seller on e-bay that I bought vintage pieces from. She must have had a background in such things as she had a lovely web site you could go to for tips on the care and laundry of these items. I wish I printed it all out as I can no longer find her or her web site. Since you have your Smithsonian back ground I thought perhaps you would be kind enough to offer up some thoughts on caring for our vintage items. One day when I am a more confidant CQer I plan to make some of these items into wall hangings to pass down to my nieces and nephews. I have several drawers full of hankies and doilies, table runners, etc….they should not lie in the drawer till someone discards them when I die…they deserve to be used and passed on.
dd,
Have you looked on e-bay for the other angel patterns?
Your blog is coming along nicely and looks great!!
